Mary Louise Overton

 

Mary Louise Overton, age 73, of Malvern, died Sunday, January 15, 2012 in the Hot Spring County Medical Center.  She was born in Redfield , Arkansas on September 21, 1938 to the late Thomas and Alta Boyce Penix.  Mary was a homemaker and loving mother of five.  She loved needlepoint, cooking, and playing with her grandchildren.  Mary was Pentecostal by denomination.  She was the widow of the late William N. Overton, to whom she was married on June 5, 1956 in Traskwood.  He preceded her in death on March 10, 2011.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Overton, two brothers, Jimmy and Bobby Penix, and two sisters, Patsy Penix and Dee Taylor.

Her survivors include a son, William J. Overton of Malvern; three daughters, Norma Jean Freeman of Malvern, Connie Sue Shaffer of Gloucester, Virginia, and Penny Diane Inglis of Bryant; three brothers, Charlie and Arlie Penix, and Jack Penix, all of Little Rock; three sisters, Belle Gilbert of Salem, Freda Walsh of Alexander, and Bonnie Keen of California; by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the graveside in the Traskwood Cemetery at two o’clock on Friday afternoon, January 20, 2012 with Brother Paul Grigsby officiating.

Visitation will be from six until eight o’clock Thursday evening at J. A. Funk Funeral Home.

Patsy D. Davis

 

Patsy D. Davis, age 59 of Magnet Cove, died Wednesday evening, January 18, 2012 in the Hot Spring County Medical Center.  She was born in Malvern on July 5, 1952 to Delmus Wright and the late Corene Ethel Coates Wright.  Being a “child of the Military”, she was reared and received her education in various locales, ranging from Arkansas to Arizona to Nevada , and ultimately to Okinawa , Japan , where she graduated high school.  She came home to Malvern in July of 1974.  On February 16, 1979, she married Alan Davis, who survives her.  Her working life consisted of being a medical technician for Dr. Dow Stough in Hot Springs, and foremost, a homemaker.  She was a member of the North Malvern Assembly of God Church.

Other survivors include a son, Tim Davis of Magnet Cove; a step-daughter, Carla Green of Arkadelphia; a brother, Eugene Wright of Malvern; her father and step-mother, Delmus and Joy Wright of Malvern; six grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a step-son, Chris Davis, and by two sisters, Diane Talbot and Phyllis Fedric.

Services will be held at the graveside in Ouachita Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, January 21, 2012 at two o’clock with Brother Paul Grigsby officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Hot Spring County Medical Center.

Visitation at J. A. Funk Funeral Home will be from six until eight o’clock Friday evening.

The family will be headquartered at 1490 Henderson Road , Magnet Cove.

William R. “Bill” Boyle

 

William R. “Bill” Boyle, age 80 of Texarkana , Texas , died Friday, January 20, 2012.  He was born in Malvern , Arkansas on May 9, 1931 to the late Ray N. Boyle and Irene Smith Boyle.  Reared and receiving his early education in Malvern, he attended Memphis State , Henderson State , and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.  Bill was a retired registered pharmacist, having owned a drug store in Texarkana , Texas .  He was a member of Eylau Methodist Church in Texarkana , was a Mason, and a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Wherever he lived-Arkadelphia, Minden , Louisiana , and Texarkana , Bill sang in the church choir.  He loved music, old Westerns, and WWII Army movies.

He is survived by three children, Robert Boyle of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Scott Boyle and wife Marne of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Susan Boyle Dorough of Texarkana, Texas; five grandchildren, Brittney and Jarred Mathews, Megan, Ryan, and Landon Boyle; the mother of his children, Lajuan Boyle, a sister, Dr. Virginia Boyle of Ashville, North Carolina, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, Including Pat Lightfoot and Betty Harrison.

Bill was also preceded in death by a sister, Marion Fuller, and two brothers, Ray Boyle, Jr., and Jack Boyle.

His funeral will be held at two o’clock Monday afternoon, January 23, 2012,          in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend LaVon Post officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery .  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

Pallbearers will be Robert Boyle, Scott Boyle, Ryan Boyle, Mickey Boyle, Brandon Glover, and Jarred Mathews.

Honorary pallbearers are Landon Boyle and Wilburn Cox.

Memorials are requested to Eylau Methodist Church , or the Texarkana Animal Shelter.

The family will be at 2724 Magnolia in Texarkana , Texas .

Hollis H. Holmes

 

Hollis H. Holmes, age 76 of Malvern, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 in St. Joseph ’s Hospital.  He was born in Hampton , Arkansas on March 8, 1935 to the late Gordon Jesse Holmes and Kathryn Garrett Holmes.  Reared and educated in Hampton and Camden , he later served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force.  Hollis was a drywall finisher for over 40 years, and had been a resident of Malvern since 1970.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge and attended church at New Beginnings Baptist.  He enjoyed watching football games, and loved to fish and water ski before his health began to fail.

Hollis is survived by his wife, Lotherene Reynolds Holmes, to whom he was married on June 17, 1961; by a son, Joel Duane Holmes and his wife, Amy of Convent, Louisiana; a daughter, Cynthia De Ann Szarmach and her husband, Ed of Alexander; by seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Hazel Lucas (Ray) of Hampton and Audrey Patton (Albert) of California; and a brother, Gordon Holmes of Malvern.

He was also preceded in death by nine siblings, Arlice Holmes, Versie Lee Pierce, Vivian Gorman, Helen Counts, Omer Renfro, Leathie Griffin, Annie Hand, Clovis Holmes, and Molly Holmes.

His funeral will be at New Beginnings Baptist Church at two o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2012 with Brother Scott Efird officiating.  Interment will follow in Harp Cemetery .

Pallbearers will be: Bill Duncan, Fred Byrd, Jr., Riley Goldsmith, Rick Goff, Craig O’Neal, and Phillip Otwell.

The family will receive friends at J. A. Funk Funeral Home from six until eight o’clock on Monday evening.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice of Hot Springs, or New Beginnings Baptist Church .
