Peggy Spice Efird, age 75, of Perla, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at her home. She was born on November 23, 1941 in Malvern to the late Pete Spice and Oneida Gray Spice. Reared and educated here, she was a graduate of Malvern High School, Class of 1959. For most of her working life, Peggy worked in the school cafeterias in the McGehee School District and the Malvern School District. Early in her career, she had worked at the local hospital, and for Dr. John D. Wise.
Peggy was a member of the Perla City Council. She loved to cook and to work in her flower garden, and was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her husband, Maynard Efird, to whom she was married on October 9, 1959 in Malvern; by her children Chris Efird and his wife, Amanda of Poyen, Stephanie Hite and her husband Barney of McGehee, Arkansas, Jill Perdue and her husband Scott of Friendship, and Kim McEuen and her husband Mark of Sierra Vista, Arizona; by her sister, Judi Hathcock of Malvern; by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and her “menagerie”, Roscoe, Max, Milo, and Sam.
A visitation will be held from five until seven o’clock Saturday evening, September 23, 2017 at J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
Funeral service is scheduled for two o’clock Sunday afternoon in the funeral home chapel with Brother Mark McEuen officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Cemetery
Pallbearers are: Josh Hite, Daniel McNichols, John McEuen, David McEuen, Jake Efird, and Chris Courson.
