Obituary

Alan James Self, age 59 of Gifford, died Sunday, August 25, 2024 at his home after an extended illness.  He was born on June 11, 1965 in Durango, Colorado to A. J. Grevemberg and the late Jane Ellen Hebert.  Reared and educated in Sherwood, Arkansas, he had been a resident of this area for 35 years. Alan was a carpenter by trade and was a Methodist.  In his younger years he was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Alan died of alcoholism, a disease from which he could not recover.  He magnanimously donated his body to science, with the hope that, through research, families would be spared the specter of the malady that overwhelmed, and ultimately, took his life.

He is survived by his father, A. J. Grevemberg of Louisiana; two brothers, Gary Self of Cabot, Arkansas, and Roy Grevemberg of Sulphur, Louisiana; a sister, Amy Spale of Minnesota; and by the Manning Family of Gifford, Arkansas. He also leaves behind his friend and companion, Charlie the Corgi.

As per Alan's wishes, there will be no services held.

Special thanks from Alan's family go to Hospice Home Care and especially to Macie Fite and Conrad Wilson.
