Dewey Logan, age 86 of Malvern, died Tuesday April 5, 2011 in Little Rock. He was born in Malvern on December 17, 1924 to the late E. L. and Ola Perry Logan. Reared and receiving his early education in Malvern, he graduated from Malvern High School at the age of 17. He attended what is now the University of Arkansas at Little Rock prior to joining the United States Navy in 1943. He served as a Landing Craft Coxswain for the U.S. Marines throughout the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II, including the invasion of Okinawa . On March 29, 1944, he married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Banks, to whom he was married for 64 years. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2008. Dewey worked many years for both Reynolds Metals Company and ALCOA as a chemist. He helped set up the lab at the aluminum plant in Venezuela, and also worked at plants in upstate New York, Arkadelphia, and Malvern. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, was a Mason, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dewey enjoyed boating on Lake Catherine and was an avid life-long Razorbacks fan.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Virginia Lee and Max Bryant of Little Rock; by his nieces and nephews, Gail and Dan Lien, Rodney and Leigh Bryant, Lisa Akridge, Hank and Tracey Wright and John and Lynn Wright ; and great-nieces and nephews, Paul and Lynn Ann Bryant, Charlie Jackson Bryant, Rebecca Bryant, Stephanie, Bradley, and Tiffany Akridge, Logan and Jake Wright, Jake, Tara, and Natalie White, and by a special friend, Gleason McGuire.

Dewey's funeral will be at two o'clock Friday afternoon, April 8, 2011 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend LaVon Post officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Paul Bryant, Rodney Bryant, Dan lien, Hank Wright, John Wright, and Seth Wright.

Honorary pallbearers are: George Green, Chris Williams, and Farrell Richardson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from six until eight o'clock.
