Don Elliott, age 93, of Malvern, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at his home. He was born on January 10, 1930 to the late Floyd Elliott and Ada Sulton Elliott at home on the Rolla hill. He was reared and received his education in the Lono/Rolla area. He was a member of the last graduating class of Lono High School in 1947 where he was an outstanding basketball player. Don worked for Jack Kite Grocery in Malvern and Clem Wholesale before joining the Air Force in 1952.  When he returned to Malvern, he worked at Reynolds prior to finding employment with Arkansas Power and Light where he worked at the Lake Catherine Plant until his retirement as Senior Plant Repairman in 1986.  Don was saved as a boy at the Cypress Church at Round Hill and he took his singing lessons at the Methodist church in Rolla.  He was baptized in the L'Eau Frais Creek.  Don was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church in Malvern, serving as a Deacon since 1969. Many in the community knew Don from his years of refereeing basketball in the area for 15 years.  He also coached Little League in Malvern for from 1952 to 1962, mostly with the Civitan Leopards.  The highlight of his Little League baseball activities was coaching the Arkansas State Champions with Don Chenault in 1961. He was also well known for his antique collecting, auctions and trading. He loved to tell many tales of growing up in Hot Spring County.  He was the unofficial cotton picking champion of the county, picking 457 pounds for Ed Cheatham at his farm in Rolla in 1944.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his five older sisters:  Florine Overton, Ruby Harkins, Geraldine Rucker Stapf, Eva Voss, and Jewel Gray.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lemona Bounds Elliott, daughter Ladonna Elliott Daniel (Pat), and his four grandsons: 2LT Patrick Daniel, III of Ft. Benning, GA,  Elliott Daniel (Hannah) of Nashville, TN, Thomas Daniel, and Andrew Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Third Baptist Church, Malvern, officiated by Dr. Rick Hyde and eulogy delivered by Col. Pat Daniel. Visitation will start at 2:00 p.m. and resume immediately following the service.  A private graveside service, officiated by Dr. Bob Duncan, was held for immediate family at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Malvern.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Patrick, Elliott, Thomas, and Andrew Daniel.  Honorary Pallbearers are the 1961 Little League State Championship Team members.  Sincere gratitude is extended to Don's caregiver and loving friend Sherri Robinson, and the team from Gentiva Hospice Services; especially Kathryn Lambertus.
