Edwin Nulsen Strauss, III, age 84, of Malvern, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. He was born in Malvern on October 8, 1927 to the late Edwin Strauss, Jr. and Irene Fisher Strauss. Following his mother's death when Ed was quite young, he was reared by his father and stepmother, Lois Royal Strauss. Receiving his early education in Malvern, Ed later attended Hendrix College and Arkansas State Teachers College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Ed taught the third grade boys Sunday School class at First Baptist Church, and later was a volunteer with First Presbyterian Church of Malvern.

Ed was the "Voice of the Leopards" for more than 11 years as the announcer for the Malvern Leopard football team. He served as a sponsor with Alcoholics Anonymous and was extremely proud of his own 30 years of sobriety.

He is survived by his sons, Ed Strauss the IV, Keith and Scott Strauss; his grandchildren, Matt Strauss, Brandi Brooks, Angela Strauss, Erika Strauss, Melanie Dawson; his cousins, Steve Strauss, Tony Strauss, Danny Watson, Linda Higgs, and Nancy Johnson.

Ed was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy.

A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2013.
