Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Greer Marshall Miller, age 81 of Hot Springs, departed this life on February 9, 2009, following a brief illness. She was born on August 22, 1927 in Magnet Cove, Arkansas to the late William Arthur and Vallerrie Whitman Greer. Elizabeth was reared and educated in Magnet Cove where she graduated from Magnet Cove High School in 1945 as salutatorian of her senior class. In 1950 she married Lambert Lynn Marshall of Malvern, and had a son, Lynn, and a daughter, Greer Marshall. Following Lambert's untimely death in 1960, Elizabeth married J. C. Miller. They were married for thirty two years, until his death in 1999. Elizabeth was president of Marshall Oil company, Inc. and the Marshall Company, Inc. for over 40 years, in which capacities she carried on the family businesses founded by her late husband, Lambert. During these years, Elizabeth was the first woman oil jobber in the Tri-State area for Phillips Petroleum Company US, and was proud of her many other business accomplishments, including being honored as Outstanding Sales Person of the year in 1961. A longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Malvern, she was currently a member of the Hot Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her late husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Maurice "Pete" Greer, and a niece, Janet Kay Greer. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Lynn and his wife Julie Marshall of Little Rock, by her daughter, Greer Marshall of Sheridan; by her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kelly Jennings, and Jessica and Lambert Marshall; by a great-grandson, Keaton Nickolas Jennings; by two sisters, Marlene Baxter of Gibsland, Louisiana and Madge Parks and her husband Charlie of Shreveport. She also leaves behind many friends who will miss her and cherish her memory. A memorial service will be held at ten o'clock on Friday morning, February 13, 2009, in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home, 318 Ash Street, in Malvern, with Reverend Herman Voegele and Mr. Jim Alford officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry McClendon, Dixon Miller, Vaughn McCray, Terry Greer, Jim and Hough Marshall, Tom Howard, and her grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from six until eight o'clock. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice Foundation, 5600 West 12th St., Little Rock, and to the Arkansas Heart Association. The family expresses their gratitude to her caregivers, Betty Faye, Christina Hanke, and Pam George, and the ICU nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs.
