Elizabeth Fleming Stalnaker died peacefully on January 12, 2018 in Vancouver, WA, at The Quarry Senior Living, where she had lived the past ten months.

Betty, daughter of Vernon Joseph Fleming and Lydia Fleming Howe, was born April 27, 1927, in Kewanee, IL. At age five, her family moved to Harper, IA. At age eleven, her only sibling Vernon Clark Fleming was born. He died in 1957. Betty graduated from Sigourney High School and the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, IA.

Following business college, Betty worked for an attorney, for Bear Manufacturing, and for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America. She met Tom, who was working 200 miles away on a construction project, also for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. They married August 29, 1948, after a long-distance relationship, and moved to Hooker, OK, and then to Fritch, TX. Their daughter Bonny was born in Marshall, TX in 1951, and daughter Sally was born in Cape Girardeau, MO in 1953. The family settled in Malvern, AR in 1959.

Betty was a quintessential volunteer, who supported her church, her daughters' interests, and other organizations. Among her many contributions, she taught children's Sunday School classes, participated in and chaired UMW circles, and served on the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, a PEO sister, and a member of DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed years of bridge-playing, Bible studies, walking, camping, family vacations and trips to nearby lakes, and being hospitable to those whose paths crossed hers.

Betty brought beauty wherever she went, including her flower gardens, needlework, sewing, and piano-playing-all with her trademark smile that brightened the world around her.

Her beloved Tom died in 2011. She is survived by her daughters: Sally of Vancouver, WA; and Bonny Roth (Bob) of Evanston, IL. And by grandchildren: Emily of Chicago, IL; Kevin (Jerrica) of Quincy, IL; Sarah of Denver, CO; and Dujon of Evanston, IL; and by one great-grandson Mowgli.

A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Malvern on Saturday, January 27. 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Bruce Bennett officiating, followed by a reception in the Wesleyan Room. Private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Under the direction of JA Funk Funeral Home of Malvern, Arkansas.
