Frances Alline Cagle, age 85, of Malvern, died Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Encore.  She was born on September 19, 1939 in De Queen, Arkansas, to the late John Henry Slocum and Anna Margaret Corley Slocum.  She graduated from North Little Rock High School and later earned her bachelor's degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA).  Frances was a school teacher for 32 years, having taught at Magnet Cove, Traskwood, Jessieville, North Little Rock, and Malvern for 24 of those years.  In 1979, Frances was named by the Arkansas Press Association as Journalism Teacher of the Year, an honor of which she was very proud.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Malvern; Friends of the Library; and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association.  Frances was the widow of the late W. S. Cagle, to whom she was married on August 19, 1961 in  North Little Rock.  He preceded her in death on August 2, 2024.  Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by her son, James Cagle (Angela) of Malvern; her daughter, Cheryl Bunch (Pat) of Arkadelphia; brother-in-law, Jackie Montgomery of North Little Rock; grandchildren, Kristen Cagle, Nathaniel Cagle (Sandy), Amy Vandergriff, Wesley Vandergriff (Maria); great-grandchildren, Briyn Cagle and Skylar Welch; nephews, Dave Henderson and Sean Watts; and niece, Monique Woods.

Frances was also preceded in death by a sister, Margie Montgomery.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2025, at Rockport Cemetery under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
