Glenn Franklin McCoy, age 79, of Diamondhead, died Tuesday night, May 20, 2008, in Hot Springs. He was born on July 11, 1928 in Ottawa, Kansas to the late Frank A. and Ruth Crawford McCoy. Reared and educated in Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. McCoy had been a resident of Diamondhead since 1987. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Malvern, having joined the church in 1988, had taught Sunday school, and attended the Friendship Sunday School Class. A former president of the Diamondhead POA, he also served on its financial committee for a number of years. Mr. McCoy was a Mason and member of the Alpha Lodge in North Kansas City, Missouri. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge. Mr. McCoy retired in 1986 as a quality supervisor at Owens Corning Fiberglas after 39 years with the company.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Fugate McCoy of Diamondhead, to whom he was married on January 26, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri; by his children, Susan and her husband Jim Palmer, of Mankato, Minnesota, Lynn and her husband Tom Sloan of Boca Raton, Florida; by his grandchildren, Joe and Tim Palmer, and Wrenn and Lee Sloan; and by a sister, Leta Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. McCoy was also preceded in death by a sister, Mazie McClean.
A memorial service will be held on Friday morning, May 23, 2008, at eleven o'clock in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Malvern, with Reverend Stephen Wingo officiating, and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Malvern, or to the Diamondhead Lions Club.
