Glenville Rhodes, age 87, of Malvern, died Friday, February 10, 2012, in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. He was born in the Brush Creek Community in Grant County on September 23, 1924 to the late Alton Rhodes and Clarice Fitzhugh Rhodes. Moving to Malvern at age 11 with his family, he received his early education here, graduating from Malvern High School in 1942. Glenville was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. On June 8, 1947, he married Wilda Juanita Goza, his high school sweetheart. She preceded him in death in 2001.

As a young man, Glenville worked in downtown Malvern for his Aunt Bessie Rhodes in her business, Rhodes Department Store. He began his banking career in 1942 with Malvern National Bank as teller and bookkeeper, and was its youngest assistant cashier in the bank's history. In 1954 he was offered and accepted the position of Vice President and Director of the Benton State Bank. In 1955, Glenville began a long association with the Bank of Malvern. Through the years he served as Assistant Executive Vice President, Vice President, Executive Vice President, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board. He retired from Bank of Malvern in 1983. He was on the Board of Directors at Southern State Bank until 1999 when he retired from banking. Glenville was also a licensed realtor and had worked for McClure Real Estate.

His community involvement includes: past president and board member of Malvern Chamber of Commerce, Hot Spring County Industrial Development Commission, past president of Malvern Country Club, past president Young Businessmen's Club, past president Malvern Kiwanis and Malvern Rotary Clubs, Ouachita Development Council, Rockport Lodge #58 F&AM, VFW, American Legion, past Chairman of Board of Deacons and member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Lori Elizabeth Rhodes of Denver , Colorado , and Marsha Rhodes Crownover and her husband, Jim of Chesterfield, Virginia; by a brother-in-law, Paul Goza of Malvern; and by a niece and nephews, Sharon Goza Wheeler, David Goza, Gary Goza, and John Goza.

Glenville was also preceded in death by a sister, Jo Ann Rhodes Hogan.

Graveside service with military honors will be ten o'clock on Thursday morning, February 16, 2012 in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Brother Tyler Thompson officiating and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at eleven o'clock in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church , after which the family will receive friends in the church's Family Life Center . Viewing will be on Tuesday and Wednesday from eight until four-thirty.

Pallbearers are Jim Funk, Jim Ross, Kinney Black, William Mitchell, Mark Roberts, and Roger Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Sims, Jack Phillips, Howard Corder, Mark Kindy, Dennis Morris, and deacons of First Baptist Church .

A heartfelt acknowledgement goes to Glenville's special friends and caregivers, including Rosie Ballard, Loretta Simpson, Beverly Puckett, Tara White, and Faye Wicklum, now a resident of North Carolina .

Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church .
