J. C. "Darrell" Gross, age 75 of Waco , Texas , died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home. He was born in Rolla , Arkansas on March 25, 1937 to the late Garland Davis Gross and Annie Josephine Funk Gross. Reared and educated in Lono , Arkansas and Kleburg , Texas , he was a surveyor by trade. Darrell was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After his discharge from the military, he became a licensed private pilot.

Darrell is survived by a son, Mark Gross of Lufkin, Texas; by three sisters, Melba Esther Garrett of California, Norma Lee Hunt of Waco, Texas, and Frances Mae Peckham of Plano, Texas; and by his first-cousins, Cletus, Bobby, and Herman Overton, Bill and A. J. Williams, Marcell Heinley, Mary Lee Mohler, Sandra Miller, Jim Funk, and John Allan Funk; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carmen Owens, and by two brothers, Marion "Mack" Gross, and Fred Eugene Gross.

A memorial service officiated by Reverend LaVon Post will be held in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home on Saturday morning, September 22, 2012, at ten o'clock, with visitation beginning one hour prior.

His ashes will be interred in the family plot in Cypress Cemetery at Willow , Arkansas .
