Jack Butler, age 94 of Hope, formerly of Malvern, died Thursday, April 29, 2010. He was born on February 26, 1916 in Leola, Arkansas to the late Thomas A. and Mabel Dial Butler. Reared and educated in Grant County, he had been a resident of Malvern since 1946. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War 2, and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he had taught the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He had served as a Deacon, and was church treasurer through three major building projects. Jack was a member of the Rockport Masonic Lodge #58, and also a member of the Brush Creek Hunting Club. He retired from Reynolds Metals as line foreman with nearly 30 years of service to the company. He was an avid gardener, having missed only two gardens in his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Davis Orr Lee Butler of the home; by a step-son, Larry Orr and his wife Tammy, of Hope; by his sisters, Matrid (Neva) Kelley of California, Lenore Bain and her husband Ed of Malvern, Linda Luman and her husband Joe of California; his brothers, Al and his wife Patricia, Dean and his wife Patsy, all of California, and Donald and his wife Ann Butler of Washington State; by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was also preceded in death by his first wife, Winnie Deere Butler, by brothers, Thomas Dolan Butler, Douglas Butler, Quinton Butler, and Joe Butler; by a sister, Ruby Lewis; by a step-son Tommy Orr, and a step-daughter, Linda Orr Barton.

His funeral will be Sunday, May 2, 2010, at two o'clock in the afternoon in the sanctuary of Emmanuel Baptist Church with Brothers Earnest Taylor, James Heard, John Nations, and John Owen officiating. Interment will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Lynn Headley, Jimmy James, Huck Cummings, Dewayne Butler, Joe Gage, and Danny Butler.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Alex Orr, Cannon Orr, and Josh and Jeffrey Butler.

Visitation will be from five until seven o'clock Saturday evening at J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
