Obituary

James Clyde Gibbons, age 94 of Malvern, died Sunday evening, August 10, 2025 in Little Rock.  He was born on September 30, 1930 in Jennings, Texas to the late George Earnest Gibbons and Lilly Anna Carney Gibbons.  Reared and receiving his early education in California, he moved with his family to Prattsville, Arkansas at the age of 17.  Clyde worked in the retail grocery industry for most of his career, having been manager at Food Center and later at Safeway.  He was an avid golfer and loved to go dancing.  For nine years, Clyde coached Babe Ruth baseball teams in Malvern.  Clyde married Betty Sue Williams on December 24, 1949, and they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2024. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue, of Malvern; by his daughters, Karen Turner (James) of Princeton, Arkansas, and Becky Roseberry (Jack) of Benton; five grandchildren, Claigh Roseberry, Bryan Roseberry, Heath Roseberry, Amy Fite, and Susan Turner; nine great-grandchildren, Tucker, Rex, Gibbons, Grayton, Bogan, Judson and Sims Roseberry, Blake Fite and Dylan Fite; and by a great-great-granddaughter, Phoebe Fite.

Clyde was also preceded in death by nine siblings.

A graveside service will be held on Friday morning, August 15, 2025, at 11:00, in the Philadelphia Cemetery at Prattsville, Arkansas with Brother Mark Evans officiating and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are: Claigh, Bryan, and Heath Roseberry, Blake, Dylan, and Shane Fite.
