Janice Ann Funk, 76, of Alexander, AR, passed away on March 1, 2026, after a long and tender journey with Alzheimer's — often called "the long goodbye." Today, her family rejoices in the promise that she is fully restored, whole, and at peace in the presence of her Savior.

Born on April 30, 1949 in Pine Bluff, Janice graduated from Gould High School in Gould, AR, before continuing her education at Ouachita Baptist University where she earned her degree in Speech Pathology in 1972. Her gentle spirit and compassionate heart were evident throughout her life, both professionally and personally.

On September 1, 1973, she married the love of her life, James W. "Jim" Funk, Jr. For 52 years, Jim was her devoted husband and steadfast partner. In her later years, he lovingly cared for her with remarkable patience and unwavering faithfulness, reflecting the deep bond they shared and the enduring strength of their marriage.

Janice was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church, Metairie, LA and later worshiped at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, Little Rock, AR.  Her faith was the foundation of her life and a source of strength and comfort to her family throughout her illness.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Funk; her stepson, Mike Funk (Nikki); her cherished grandchildren, Brock Funk of Little Rock and Addison Funk of Longview, Texas; her brothers, David Phillips (Susie), Pat Phillips, Brother- in-law- John Allan Funk and nieces & nephews Christopher Phillips (Amanda); Anna Phillips Thompson (son Bennet), and Ashley Brown (Nick).

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark Funk of Thibodaux, LA; her father, Herbert Phillips; and her mother, June Phillips of Gould, AR.

Janice's greatest joy was her son, Mark and grandchildren, Brock and Addison, who held a special place in her heart, and her love for them was deep and unwavering. Even as Alzheimer's slowly took her memories, it never diminished her capacity to love those around her.

Her funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, March 6, 2026, at 2:00 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brother Adam Miller officiating.  A visitation will precede the service, beginning at 1:00.

A private interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Mike Funk, Pat Phillips, David Phillips, Brock Funk, Addison Funk, John Allan Funk, and Christopher Phillips.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Landmark, Pleasant Hill, and Affinity Hospice for the dignity, kindness, and care they provided.
