Obituary

Carolyn Jean Lyons Brumley was completely healed on September 15, 2023.  She left her worn out earthly body and met Jesus Christ at the Pearly Gates.  Jean was born on August 7, 1935, the first child of W. W. (Buster) and Molly "Gus" Phillips Lyons.  An early childhood memory was of having a pet raccoon.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at age 12, at First Baptist Church in Malvern.  She graduated Malvern High School with the class of 1953, and shortly after, she married W. J. Brumley, Jr. on June 25, 1953.  Jean spent 33 years as secretary and treasurer of Third Baptist Church.  She was very good at her job and left this earth having kept in confidence all she had experienced on the job.  During the late '70s and early '80s, she sold Home Interiors and Gifts, reaping many rewards from that job.  Jean was a great (and fast) cook, able to prepare breakfast in just minutes.  Through the years, more than 1000 batches of Rice Krispy treats were produced in her kitchen.  A wonderful wife to W. J. and marvelous mother to her children, she loved being "Nanny" to her nine grandchildren.  Each day, Momma and Daddy would spend time praying for every person in our family.  What a legacy she left!

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Lyons: three sisters-in-law, Betty Lyons, Carolyn Lyons, and Betty Holt.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, W. J. Brumley, Jr.; her children, Phil Brumley (Sarah) of Glen Rose, Terry Brumley (Julie) of Hernando, Mississippi, and Joy Bettis (Jimmy) of Magnet Cove; grandchildren, Nick (Nicole) Brumley, Noah (Jessica) Brumley, Brandon (Paige) Brumley, Bethany (Brad) McLaughlin, Alex (Jessica) Brumley, Eli (Kira) Brumley, Caleb (Rachel) Bettis, Alicia Brumley and Jessica (Matt) Burnett; by 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Lyons of Taylor, Arkansas, and a sister, Bobbye (Richard) Clark of Columbus, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon, September 18, 2023, at Rest Haven Cemetery (Hwy 67, South) with Brother Tom Strike officiating and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Encore Healthcare for their care and devotion to Jean.

"Momma loved to serve others, working in the kitchen at church or buying a rotisserie chicken to take to someone in need.  The best way to honor our momma is to do something nice for someone. If you want to make a donation, make it to Third Baptist Church, Malvern."
