Jean Schackleford Allen West, age 92 of Malvern, died Wednesday evening, March 11, 2015 at her home. She was born on October 10, 1922 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late Joseph Edward Schackleford and Lee Porter Schackleford. She grew up in Pine Bluff and graduated from Pine Bluff High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, and make-up editor of the school paper, The Pine Cone.

In 1942 she married Dr. Dewey Edward Allen, Jr. They moved to Malvern in 1951. They had three children, Cynthia Jean, Nancy Lynell, and Dewey Allen, III.

She was also preceded in death by two of her children, Nancy and Dewey III, two sisters, Helen Beaty and Jane Conrad.

Jean married James Wendell West in 1990, and he preceded her in death in 2001.

She had been a civil service clerk-stenographer, a realtor, and a Pink Lady volunteer at Hot Spring County Medical Center. Jean was a member of P.E.O. and the Davis-Dowdell Circle at First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, canasta, doing crossword puzzles, painting, and collecting antique glassware. A lover of history, art, and music, she enjoyed singing hymns at her church, and had many favorites.

Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Jean and Terry Matthews of Malvern; two granddaughters, Jean Michelle Short and husband, Jared of Battle Ground, Washington, and Jessica Allen Schlinker and husband Brent of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ashley, and Sydney Short; nephews and niece, Mike Beaty and Lynn Beaty and wife Donna all of Haughton, Louisiana; John Scott and Joe Monroe of Jonesboro, James Thomas Allen of Shreveport, and Diana Monroe of Jonesboro; special friend Archie Morris of Malvern; special godchild, Velda Jean Keeney of Malvern.

Her funeral will be two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2015 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with Reverend LaVon Post officiating. A visitation at the church will precede the service by an hour, beginning at one o'clock. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, all under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Terry Matthews, Jared Short, Cameron Short, Brent Schlinker, Lynn Beaty, Rick Zimmerman, and George McClure.
