Born in Seoul, Korea on May 19, 1934 to Lee Young Choon and Kim Soongi, Dr. Jusung Lee passed away on December 24, 2013 at the age of 79. Dr. Lee arrived in the United States in 1958 and became naturalized in 1965. He graduated from Chon Puk University (1954-1958) and received his BS and DVM. Once in the United States, Dr. Lee attended Ricks College from 1958-1959 and Colorado State University Graduate School in 1959. Dr. Lee was an associate veterinarian with Pony Hill Veterinary Service from 1959-1960, was an associate veterinarian with Norris Veterinary Service from 1960-1964, and was self-employed in Malvern, Arkansas from 1964 to the present. Dr. Lee was a member of the Arkansas VMA, AVMA, and the Korean Veterinary Society of America (vice president/trustee 1975). In 2010, Dr. Lee was recognized as the First Korean Veterinarian in the United States by the Korean Veterinary Society of America.
Dr. Lee is survived by his daughter, Velda Keeney and her husband Jay; two grandchildren, Jacob and Jace Keeney (all of Malvern); brothers, Juchul and Jusuk of Los Angles, CA; a sister, KaiRim of Washington D.C.; a sister Kaiyoung of Wonjoo, Korea; a brother Jusam of Wonjoo, Korea; a brother Jueun of Kunsan, Korea; a sister Kaieun of Seoul, Korea; a sister Kaishim of Mongolia; and a brother Juyoung of New York, NY; 13 nieces and nephews; and 5 great nieces and nephews.
Dr. Lee is preceded in death by his father, Lee Young Choon; his mother, Kim Soongi; his step-mothers, Kim Soonduk and Kim Kumryun; his sisters Kaisun and Kaiwol; and his brothers, Jusoo and Jukwang.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at J. A. Funk Funeral Home in Malvern with Reverend LaVon Post officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hot Spring County Community Wide Thanksgiving and Christmas Meals, c/o First United Methodist Church, 127 East Page Avenue, Malvern, Arkansas 72104.
