Marie Vaughan, age 79 of Malvern, died Wednesday May 1, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs. She was born on May 2, 1933 in Friendship, Arkansas to the late Doyne McDonald and Georgia Marie Berry McDonald. She was reared and educated in the Friendship and Ouachita schools, where she played girls basketball at Ouachita High. Marie was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for over 27 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a Baptist. Marie will be remembered for her sense of humor and her feisty spirit.
She is survived by her son, John A. Vaughan and his wife Gail of Russellville, Arkansas; her daughters, Ginger Vaughan Bear of Malvern, and Sherry Vaughan of Los Angeles, California; her grandchildren, Jan Taylor (Jay) of Bakersfield, California, Amanda Taylor (Brian) of Clarksville, Arkansas, Emily Gossner (Dan) of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Megan Dolomisiewicz (Anthony) of Southern Pines, North Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Breezie and Nathan Taylor, and Madison Lawrence.
Marie was also preceded in death by a brother, Glen McDonald, and two sisters, Jean Barr and Sue Lee.
A memorial service will be held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2013 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend Chuck Shryock officiating.
