Marie O'Neal Wallis, age 93, of Malvern, died Wednesday morning, October 17, 2007 in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. She was born in Malvern on April 7, 1914, the eldest daughter of nine children, to the late Henry and Effie Eskue ONeal. Reared and educated in Malvern, she was the widow of the late Doyle R. Wallis, Sr., to whom she was married on June 16, 1934. He preceded her in death in 2002. Early in her career she was a school teacher at Perla. For most of her working life she was a sales clerk for several local clothiers, including Lindvalls Department Store, Samons, and J. C. Penneys. She counted among her organizational memberships the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Malvern Garden Club. Marie was a very active volunteer for Libbys R.O.S.E., the Hot Spring County Medical Center Auxiliary, and was a poll judge for many years at Perla during election season. While her children were growing up, she served as president of the P. T. A. and was in the Band Boosters. She is survived by her son, Doyle R. "Buddy" Wallis, Jr. and his wife Betty, of Magnet Cove; by her daughter, Shari Wallis Williams and her husband Brian, of Malvern; by her sister, Thelma Eason, also of Malvern; by two brothers, J. D. O'Neal of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Bill O'Neal of Prescott, Arizona; by eight grandchildren, Gregg, Aimee, and Reggie Wallis, Angela Rhodes, Rusty and Katy Ray, and Lisa and Ray Sampson; by ten great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jordan Wallis, Fisher and Riley Rhodes, Austin Ray, and Jonathon, Jake, Josh, John, and Helen Marie Sampson; by a host of nieces and nephews, by her sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn ONeal Roseberry; and by a special friend, Isabell Gilliam.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Wallis Sampson; by four brothers, Jim, Buck, Bobby, and Clarence O'Neal; and one sister, Ellen Kerfoot.
Her funeral will be Saturday morning, October 20, 2007, at ten o'clock, in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brother Scott Efird officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gregg, Reggie, and Jordan Wallis, Rusty Ray, Troy Rhodes, Ray and Josh Sampson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake and Jonathon Sampson, Dr. L. B. Brashears, and the staff of Malvern Nursing Home.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Friday evening from six until eight o'clock.
