Mr. Marion L. "Spike" Sjolander, age 83, of Malvern, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on February 25, 1935 in Courtland, Kansas to the late Laverne Sjolander and Blanche Davidson Sjolander. Reared and receiving his early education in Kansas, he was a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Banking. He was the widower of the late Elizabeth Ann Peterson Sjolander, to whom he was married on January 14, 1956 in Norway, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2002. During his banking career, he rose rapidly in the ranks, and served as an executive officer for 38 years. His civic duties consisted of serving as a city councilman, being involved in his local Chamber of Commerce, and joining the Lions Club. He also had been a member of the Nebraska Development Commission. A resident of Malvern since 1994, he attended Second Baptist Church. During the early 1960's, he and some friends formed a band and performed at many venues. After moving here, he shared his talent by playing drums at the local Senior Center.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Dawn Sjolander of Greeley, Colorado; two daughters, Janet Ramig of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jean and her husband Scott Sleddens of Malvern; a half-brother, William C. Erickson of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at six o'clock Tuesday evening, May 15, 2018 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brother John Chandler officiating. A visitation will preceded the service, beginning at five o'clock.

His ashes will be interred in Caldwell Cemetery, Formoso, Kansas.
