Mary W. Dugan, age 89, of Perla, died Monday, October 19, 2009 in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. She was born in Malvern on June 3, 1920 to the late Fred and Effie Lowry Ray. Reared and receiving her early education in Malvern, she graduated cum laude from Malvern High School . Mary completed Business College in Memphis , Tennessee , and immediately went to work for Acme Brick Company in Malvern. She subsequently was employed at ALCOA, and after World War II was hired as secretary to the personnel manager at Reynolds Metals Company. In 1958, Mary joined the staff of Hot Spring County Medical Center as office manager, later serving as interim Administrator for the hospital. After leaving that position, she became executive secretary for the Union Carbide Corporation near Hot Springs , until her retirement in 1985. In addition to her career, Mary also served as City Clerk for the City of Perla for forty years. She was secretary-treasurer of the Senior Babe Ruth Baseball Club, and travelled with the teams to Asheville , North Carolina , Owensboro , Kentucky , and Mobile , Alabama.

She is survived by her husband, Max Dugan, to whom she was married on Easter Sunday, Arpil 18, 1951 in Mississippi; by one son, John and his wife, Gina Dugan of Malvern; by three grandchildren, John Cole Dugan and his wife, Dawn, Ginger Dugan and her fianc Troy Morris, Casey Ledbetter and his wife Stephanie; two great-grandchildren, Dalton Dugan and Ashton Dugan; and by her special cousins, Judi Hathcock, Peggy Efird, Donna Ward, Timmy Lowry, and Phillip Lowry.

A graveside service will be held at ten o'clock Wednesday morning, October 21, 2009 in the Oak Ridge Cemetery with Reverend Dale Diffee officiating.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Stevens, Eric Brown, Rusty Hardy, Chris Williams, Maynard Efird, and Casey Ledbetter.

Visitation will be held this afternoon from five until seven o'clock at J. A. Funk Funeral Home.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, please make memorials to either the Humane Society or the Cancer Society.
