Melony "Mel" Gibbs Ward, age 70, of Mountain Pine, died Friday, January 28, 2022 at her home.  She was born in Malvern on January 14, 1952 to the late Albert "Red" Gibbs and Bobbie French Gibbs.  Reared and educated in Malvern, she was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and friend.  Mel was the widow of the late Garry Ward, to whom she was married on February 8, 1974 in Mt. Pine.  She and her husband helped to establish the Absolute Life Church, and later was a member of Harvey's Chapel Church.  Mel and Garry were co-owners of Allstate Timber Products, Inc. He preceded her in death in 2011.  An animal lover, her home was always open to rescue and care for fur babies who had no place to go.  Gatherings with family, especially during the holidays, were something she always looked forward to.  She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her popcorn balls and mac and cheese.  Mel had a "green thumb" and could grow anything from beautiful flowers to a variety of vegetables.  An avid hunter and fisher, she also enjoyed camping and boating.

Mel is survived by her daughters, Ashley Johnson (Kale), and Amber Ward, all of Mountain Pine; her sisters, Angel Melton and Cindy Harp (J. C.), and a bonus sister, Peggy Lusinger, all of Malvern; her father-in-law, Doyce Ward of Mt. Pine; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Paige Ward and mother-in-law, Maxine Ward .

Graveside service at Rest Haven Cemetery will be on Monday afternoon, January 31, 2022, at two o'clock, with Brother Buddy Leamons officiating.  A visitation at the cemetery will precede the service, beginning at one-thirty.  J. A. Funk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
