Obituary

Melba Esther Garrett, age 91 of Murphy, Texas, died Friday, August 19, 1922, in Wylie, Texas.  She was born in Linn Creek, Missouri on September 25, 1930, to the late Garland Gross and Anna Josephine Funk Gross.  Reared and educated in Norman, Arkansas, she spent 33 years working in the banking industry as a teller.  She was Pentecostal by denomination.  Melba was an avid reader, and when her health allowed, she loved going to the gym and on long walks.

Survivors include four grandchildren: Tiffany, Matthew, Rose Lea, and Joshua; six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Mae Peckham of Murphy, Texas; first-cousins, Mary Lee Mohler, Herman Overton, Sandra Miller, Jim Funk, and John Allan Funk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melba was also preceded in death by her children, Rhonda Kett and Richard Clay, and her siblings, Mack Gross, Eugene Gross, Darrell Gross, Carmen Owens, and Norma Lee Hunt.

Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Friday morning, August 26, 2022, in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brother Danny Tillery officiating.  Interment will be in Cypress Cemetery at Willow, Arkansas.
