Obituary

Oren Ray “Cullie” Culpepper, age 90, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, formerly of Malvern and Jonesboro, died Monday, September 14, 2026, in Fayetteville. He was born in Schaal, Arkansas on March 20, 1936, to the late Jesse Earl and Edna Rice Culpepper. Cullie graduated from Malvern High School with a full scholarship to the University of Arkansas. He played football for the Razorbacks and in 1954 he was one of the 25 Little Pigs. After graduation he married Glenda Belle Humble in 1957. She preceded him in death in 2020. After serving in the United States Army for 18 years, he went into education and earned his Master’s Degree. He served as teacher, dean of students, principal, and administrator for Malvern Public Schools from 1977-2005.

Cullie and Glenda were members of First Presbyterian Church of Malvern.

Cullie was a part of the Woodpeckers, an organization that served as a Hurricane Katrina relief group. Cullie spent decades honoring 40 soldiers he served with and lost in the Vietnam War. While living at St. Bernards Village in Jonesboro he organized game nights and socials. He was known as the “mayor of the Village”. He was meticulous with research and record keeping documenting family history. Cullie had many hobbies. He loved wood working. He adored his grandchildren. Didn’t miss any of the boys’ football games. He loved playing games. He might have cheated, which his grands caught on to and quickly corrected.

Cullie is survived by his children, Ray and his wife Kelli Culpepper of Fayetteville, and Mike Culpepper of Burke, Virginia; son-in-law Jon Dinsmore; his grandchildren Lee and his wife Adrianne, Cody and his fiancee, Payton Kinnaman, Julia Culpepper, and Ciaran Dinsmore; and great-grandchildren, Dallas and Colt Culpepper.
