Obituary

Orland E. Dial age 77, of Lono, died unexpectedly on Monday morning, December 16, 2024 at his home.  He was born in Malvern on December 18, 1946, to the late Frank Dial and Ollie Shelby Dial.  Reared and receiving his early education in Malvern and Leola, he graduated high school in Leola.  Orland later attended Henderson State University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in business administration.  He retired as an auditor for the State of Arkansas. Orland was a United States Army veteran and was a member of the Arkansas National Guard, achieving the rank of Captain.

Orland was an avid golfer and a member of the Malvern Country Club.  He referred to a too-short drive as a 'Mother-in-Law shot': "it looked good going, but didn't go far enough!"  He was devoted to his kids and grandkids.  He attended all their sports activities, including their games, try-outs, track meets, etc.  Having never met a stranger, you could always count on a long conversation when running into Orland.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McGriff Dial, to whom he was married on August 27, 1965 in Malvern; his daughter, De'Anna Webb (Stacey) of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Faith Church (Aaron) and Hope Webb; a great-grandchild, Saylor Webb; a nephew, Bill Dial (Lori), a niece, Karen Keaton (Kyle), and a great-niece, Addison Dial.

Orland was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anja Renee Dial.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday evening, December 20, 2024 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
