Otis W. "Homer" Holmes, Jr, age 90, of Malvern, died Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Hot Springs. He was born on August 30, 1934, in Sparkman, Arkansas, to the late Otis W. Holmes, Sr. and Meautie Murphy Holmes. Reared and educated here, he was a graduate of Malvern High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Homer worked for Glenvale Products/Hoover Ball and Bearing and served as vice president of the local workers union. He was also owner/operator of Donaldson Grocery and Station. Homer was an avid hunter and fisherman, and coached the Civitan Leopards for a number of years.
He is survived by his son, Don Holmes of Hot Springs; three daughters, DiAnne Scarpa (David) of New Jersey, Samantha Holmes Howard (Jon) of Malvern, and Miquel Holmes of Maine; three sisters, Dorothy Tankersley of Texas, Judy Wallace of Benton, and Mary Holmes of Bauxite; one brother, Walter Earl Holmes (Laura) of Ft. Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Homer was also preceded in death by two daughters, Darla Teel and Debbie Holmes; by three brothers, Jim Holmes, Ernest Holmes, and Bill Holmes; and by two sisters, Della Mae Draper and Gladys Griffin.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon, February 12, 2025, in the chapel of J.A. Funk Funeral Home with Brother Scott Efird officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
