Phillip Randall (Phil) Watts, age 60 of Malvern, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in the Hot Spring County Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 14, 1948 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Martha Belle McHenry Watts and the late Frank Watts. An "Army Brat", Phil was reared and educated in Japan, Germany, Las Vegas, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and Hot Springs. He liked to say that he was internationally educated. A veteran of both the United States Army and the Air Force, Phil became a law enforcement officer and was dedicated to his occupation for over 20 years. He worked for the Malvern Police Department, the Pine Bluff Police Department, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Police Department, and for the Rock Springs, Wyoming Police Department. Phil was a talented drummer and music was one of his greatest passions. He enjoyed drawing and was a creative writer. Phil held an active interest in sports throughout his life, particularly Arkansas football. Years ago, he coached football at the Malvern Boys Club. Phil was a Baptist.
He is survived by his mother Martha Belle McHenry Watts of Malvern; by a son, Phillip Watts, Jr. of Hot Springs; by a brother and sister-in-law Dan and Brenda Watts of Superior Wyoming; a sister, Mary Jane Richards of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law Susie and Ted Cook of Green River, Wyoming; a nephew Joseph Davidson and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mike Watts.
Graveside services will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery on Monday afternoon, September 22, 2008 at two o'clock with Dr. Verne Wickliffe officiating, and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
