Obituary

Phyllis L. Songer, age 75 of Malvern, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at her home. She was born on August 12, 1933 in Council Grove, Kansas to the late Jake and Myrtle Phillips Hammett. Reared and educated in Kansas, she had been a resident of Malvern since 1978. She was a homemaker and the wife of Floyd Songer, to whom she was married in July of 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mrs. Songer had been active in the local FHA, served on the Democratic Committee, and was an election official, serving as a judge at the polls. She sold jewelry, made ceramics, collected dolls, and enjoyed working word-find puzzles. Going to yard sales and collecting antiques were two more of her favorite things to do. She was Baptist by denomination.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd, of the home; by three sons, Robert Dull, Jr. of Georgia, Roy Dull of California, and Bill Paulson of Kansas; by two daughters, Deborah Moffitt of Texas, and Maureen "Reni" Kelley of Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Brenda Gregory of Texas, and Lynda Allen of Missouri; three step-sons, Gary Songer of Willow, Arkansas, David Songer of California, and Gerald Songer of Malvern; two sisters, Mary Ahearn of California and Virginia Davis of Kansas; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grancdhildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Jack, Tommy, and Jim, and by a sister, Ann.

A memorial service will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday morning, October 11, 2008 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home. Mrs. Songer's body will be cremated.
