Dr. Robert H. White, age 78, of Malvern, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at his home. He was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma on October 9, 1935 to the late Hubart L. White and Robbie Horner White. Reared and receiving his early education in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and California, he graduated high school in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, attended Brown Military Academy in California and John Brown University. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and attended medical school in Little Rock. He retired from the Army National Guard in 1997 after 36 years in the military. While in the service, he was a flight surgeon. He set up his medical practice in Malvern in 1961, and became very active in the community. He was past president of Smith Elementary School PTA, past president of Malvern Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Malvern Airport Commission, had served as Hot Spring County Coroner, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Hot Spring County Medical Society, and a charter member of the Academy of Family Practice. Dr. White was a private pilot, a scuba diver, loved to go sail boating, and enjoyed woodworking. He was a trumpet player, and while in medical school, he performed with the Arkansas Symphony.

He is survived by his wife, Dean Barnes White, to whom he was married on November 1, 1958; by four children, Steve White (Julie) of Malvern, Mike White (Julie) of Ozark, Missouri, Scott White (Adriana) of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Dawn Loomis (Doug) of Springdale, Arkansas; two sisters, LaFama McBride of Joplin, Missouri and Robin Selman of Springdale, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, Amy Mercer, Mathew White, Chris White, Josh White, Jack White, Kevin White, Jeff White, Leila White, Jonathan White, Ellie White, McKenna White, Sara Loomis, and Rob Loomis; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Austin Mercer.

The funeral will be at ten o'clock Saturday morning, September 13, 2014 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with Reverend LaVon Post officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
