Rosemary B. Jones, age 87, died early Monday morning, March 9, 2009, in Yukon, Oklahoma, at the home of her beloved granddaughter, Jill Morkes. A long-time resident of Malvern, Rosemary was born on July 30, 1921 in Laura, Oklahoma to the late Dr. Frank Ernest and Lettie Vivian Dill Black. In her early childhood, she lived on large cattle ranches in west Texas and New Mexico prior to her family's moving to the rough and rugged copper mining country around Globe, Arizona. Never one to be told "girls don't- can't- shouldn't- do that, she was the only female drummer in her high school's drum and bugle corps. Rosemary and the late Wesley hall Jones were married on Christmas Eve, 1938 in Globe, Arizona. After completing high school, she and Hall set up housekeeping in a tent house in Tiger, Arizona, and Rosemary began her first career, homemaker, by sweeping rough board floors, teaching herself to cook, and battling the scorpions. In about 1942, she and her husband moved to Shorewood Hills in Jones Mill, Arkansas. Rosemary worked in the laboratory at the aluminum plant nearby and studied aircraft mechanics to be prepared for other war work. They later moved into Malvern for some years prior to moving to southern Illinois in 1948, where she began her second career, motherhood, played a lot of bridge, learned to square dance, and made bookshelves, doll furniture, and play tables for her children. In 1959, she and her husband moved their family to Sulphur, Oklahoma, where rosemary discovered golf. When the family moved back to Malvern, she joined the Malvern Country Club. Rosemary grew to love golf, played whenever she was able, and considered herself an avid golfer for the rest of her life. She also was a very talented seamstress, making most of her and her daughter's clothes, including prom dresses, and drapes and curtains for her home. She even made her daughter's wedding gown as well as the bridesmaids' dresses. In 1970, following the death of her husband/friend/partner, Hall, rosemary bravely reentered the workplace and embarked on her third career: business woman. Wright Chemical Company hired her immediately to be the lab technician in the new resin plant they were building in Gifford. Rosemary continued to work in that same plant, through many changes of ownership, and rose to the level of office manager, retiring from Spurlock Adhesives in 1995 at the age of 74. During her tenure she was named Hot Spring County Employee of the Year by the Malvern Chamber of Commerce. Rosemary enjoyed parties, dancing and entertaining: her taco suppers and enchilada dinners were always highly appreciated. Even while working fulltime, she managed to golf, play bridge, and maintain an active social life.She liked to travel. She enjoyed family vacations all over the country and into Mexico. She drove alone to Arizona twice, took a long trip to Canada, and went on a Caribbean cruise with her granddaughters Jill and Sharon. She also visited Jamaica and the Spice Islands. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Malvern, and a dedicated member of the Republican Party. Survivors include: her daughter, Janice Jones Dodson of Diamondhead; her daughters-in-law, Linda McKinney (Dan) of McAlister, Oklahoma, and Glinda Jones of Petal, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Jill Jones Morkes (Mike), Carrie Fernandez (Tony), Sharon Jones Lloyd (David), Christen Rhea Dodson, and Wesley Charles Dodson; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Brody, Jaxon and Keira Morkes; Frankie and Gunner Jones-McKinney, and Blake Jones-McKinney, and Mateo James Fernandez; a cousin, Eleanor Clifton; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Russell and Mary Jones, John H. Jones, Rudell Breland, and Sarah and Bill Doan; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Rosemary was also preceded in death by her son, Frank A. Jones, and by four brothers, John Ward Black, Frank E. Black, Jr., Orville Black, and William Mayo Black. Her funeral will be Saturday, March 14, 2009, at two o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend Carl McCormack officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Friday afternoon from five until seven o'clock. They will be headquartered at 228 Pebble Beach Drive in Diamondhead.
