Roy E. Brown, age 74, of Malvern, died early Friday morning, July 18, 2008, in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. He was born on May 27, 1934 in Lono, Arkansas, to the late William Edwin and Stella Naomi Parsley Brown. Reared and educated in Leola, he graduated Leola High School in 1953. Roy was a Baptist and served in the United States Army and National Guard from 1956 until 1964. Roy retired from Anthony Timberlands in 2001 after having spent his entire working life in the lumber industry. He was the widower of the late Joyce Miller Brown, to whom he was married on December 23, 1958 in Carthage, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on January 17th of this year.

His survivors include: two daughters: Sherry Fryar of Poyen, and Debbie and her husband Mike Gilliam of Texarkana, Texas; four grandchildren, Jordan Jackson (whom he reared) and his wife Amanda of Benton; Aaron and Andrew Gilliam, and Brady Fryar; by a great-granddaughter, Avery Jackson; by three step-brothers, Farrell, Floyd, and Farmer Miller; and by a step-sister, Diane Jones. Roy also leaves behind his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: George Miller and his wife, Shirley, of Monticello, Georgia, Cleatis Miller of Malvern, Joann and Vernon Byrd of Malvern, and Sandy Miller of Mayflower; and some cousins who were special to him, Mary Ruth Brashears, Alton Parsley, and James Hughes.

Funeral services are scheduled for two o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2008 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brothers Kevin Spurlin and Roger Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Leola Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: John Jones, Jeff Jones, Calvin Owens, Kenneth Owens, Ben Smith, and James Burl Miller.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Arlie Daniels, Dr. Larry Brashears, Linda Brashears, John Allan Funk, Troy Brashears, and John Jones. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Saturday evening from six until eight o'clock.
