Van Scott Overton, age 52, of Malvern, died Tuesday evening at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs. He was born in Millington, Tennessee on October 5, 1958 to Herman and Joyce Pierson Overton. Van was the child of military parents, and was reared and educated in various places, including California, Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas, and Naples, Italy. Van worked in the paint department at Chamber Door for 18 years, and for Whiting System, a company that built truck washes for 18 wheelers, for eight years. He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church.

He is survived by his "Mom" and "Pop", Herman and Joyce Overton, by a brother Roy Overton, and a sister Rhonda Overton, all of Malvern; by his nieces and nephews, Ashley and Kayla Overton, and Caleb and Cameron Deimel; and by a host of cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Tangra Overton, and by his brothers, Robert and Donald Overton. The funeral will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, at six o'clock in the evening, at New Beginnings Baptist Church on East Page Avenue, with Brother Scott Efird officiating.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, at five o'clock. All those in attendance are invited to join the family for a meal at the church after the funeral concludes.

Pallbearers will be: Alan Owens, Ronnie Reynolds, Riley goldsmith, Brad Monday, Ricky Meeks, and Tommy Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Brother Glen McClung and Kevin Hunt.
