Vannah Ja'net Carver Phillips,lovingly known as Gaga, was the eldest daughter of the late John Herbert and Odie Marie Carver. She was a lifelong resident of Hot Spring County. Born January 24, 1924, she passed from this life on June 12, 2012 to enter her eternal resting place and be with the Lord.

Eric, her childhood sweetheart and husband of 48 years, preceded her in death, as well as her sons, James Eric (Jimmy) and Lynn Franklin, her grandson, Kevin Todd Phillips, a brother, Charles Carver and brother-in-law Bruce Gentry.

She is survived by one son, John Daniel (Danny) and his wife Melissa Phillips, one sister, Jestine Gentry, one brother, John Wayne Carver (Diane) of Gifford, a sister-in-law, June Carver (Charles), two daughters-in-law, Becky, wife of Jimmy, and Cookie, wife of Lynn. Ja'net will leave behind seven grandchildren Jennifer Shanas, Kristi Lowry, Amanda Kay Wright, Jamie Jaynes, Daniel Phillips, Joshua Phillips, and Ezra Phillips, eight great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Ja'net has exemplified her Christian service throughout her life. She has been a member of Francois Baptist, Second Baptist, and the North Main Church of Christ. She enjoyed her time in the choir, with the ladies auxiliary and spending time with all the wonderful church families and friends.

She graduated from Gifford High School as valedictorian, and earned her B. S. E. and M. S. E. from Henderson State University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Society. She retired after forty-two years from the schools of Hot Spring County where she served as teacher, reading specialist, and counselor in Malvern, Magnet Cove, Glen Rose, and Gifford Schools .

During World War II, she spent a year and some time longer at the Hope Proving Ground in Hope , Arkansas . She used her strong algebra skills to help detect quality ammunition for the war effort.

She held membership in Arkansas Education Association, National Education Association, Hot Spring County Education Association, Gamma Alpha, Delta Kappa, Gamma International Society, Malvern Musical Arts Club, Malvern Woman's Club, Laubach Literacy Action and Arkansas School Counselors Association, where she served in official capacity. She was a charter member of the local book club.

Mrs. Phillips was an accomplished artist. Her artwork has been displayed around Hot Spring County, and has won awards for the quality of her talent. Later in life, she authored her autobiography, Life Couldn't Be Better, which was published and is in the Hot Spring County Library. After retiring from her teaching career, she tutored students both in and after school hours, volunteered her time at the library and the hospital, enjoyed traveling, swinging on the front porch, and visiting with family and friends.

Services will be at J. A. Funk Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday, June 14th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a celebration of her life on Friday, June 15th at 10:00 a.m. Mark Moser and Kirk Gassman will conduct the service with Tommy Gunn leading singing. Internment will be at Francois Cemetery in Gifford.

Pall bearers will be grandsons and nephews.
