Virginia Davis Johnson, age 88, of Malvern, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at her home. She was born in Leola , Arkansas on November 18, 1921 to the late Benjamin Claud and Floy Lee Paxton Davis. Reared and receiving her early education in Leola, she was Class Reporter in her senior year of high school. She attended Business School in Little Rock and was a graduate of the St. Joseph School of Nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Virginia worked in the Emergency Room at Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital, and in private practice for Dr. George Rosenthal in Malvern. She later worked private duty for both her parents, after which she retired. She had been a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in El Dorado . Virginia loved to read and kept alive the tradition of letter writing by regularly sending missives to family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her daughter Kay and her husband, Tom Lisenby; by her son, David Lynn Johnson, all of Malvern; by her sisters-in-law Gladys Davis and Joella Davis of Malvern; and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Virginia was also preceded in death by the father of her children, L. D. Johnson, by a son, Terry Wayne Johnson; by her brothers, Bernard, Frankie Lee, Wayne, and Runyon Davis; by a sister-in-law, Diddy Davis; by a nephew, Billy Gray Davis; and by her nieces, Martha Jane Davis Phifer and Janet Lynn Davis.
Her funeral will be held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2010 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Chaplain John Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Lono Cemetery .
Pallbearers will be: Dr. Paul Wayne Davis, Claud Davis, Steve Davis, Clint Stiles, Robbie Holyfield, and David Elrod.
Honorary pallbearers will be: M. B. Johnson, Duell Robinson, Darren Norman, Brandon Bennett, and Steve Hoffman.
Special thanks go to Dr. Burton and staff, Hospice Home Care, and to Kristi Bailey and Kale Johnson for the loving care they gave to their grandmother.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, January 16, 2010, from six until eight o'clock.
