Doc was born September 19, 1932 in Malvern to Emory Lawrence Bailey and Gladys Fitzhugh Bailey, and passed from this world on January 29, 2017 in Canon City, Colorado.

He graduated from Malvern High School. He served in the Army and was based in Germany from 1953 to 1955. Following discharge he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Chicago. Upon graduation Doc practiced for 25 years in Mena, Arkansas before retiring to the family farm in Malvern to raise cattle. Each animal in the herd was named and responded to Doc's voice, following him like dogs as he cared for them. Speaking of dogs, as if directed by spiritual guidance, any abandoned or stray dog knew that they would find food and care at the Bailey place. So the number of dogs on hand was always fluctuating, depending on how many wandered through the gate.

Doc was known for perseverance and tenacity, as well as his dedication to perfection and attention to detail. Using these attributes, he was able to obtain a pilot's license in his youth. These qualities also served him will in his hobby of restoring antique cars. When completed, each of his projects, from touring cars to early pick-up trucks, appeared in mint condition as if rolling off the assembly line.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Gladys; a brother Donald; a sister Gloria Beth; and son Russell. He is survived by Alice, his wife of 46 years; daughter Kathy; grandsons Mark (Pamela) and Dean (Marcie); and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Judy Parker; and nephews, Carey Smith, Larry Bailey, and Jeffrey Bailey; and a niece, Cindy Jones. Numerous other family members and friends celebrate his life and mourn his passing.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 Friday morning, July 28th at Clear Creek Cemetery on Country Club Road, Malvern, with Reverend Bruce Bennett officiating and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
